It's my sister's birthday on Friday so I made a few things to go along with her other (baking-inspired) gifts.
She loves to bake and I've told her for a long time I would make her some potholders.
So I finally did. I made big log cabin blocks and then used batting and Insul-brite and sewed it right sides together, leaving a small gap for turning. Now I just need to slip-stitch the opening closed. I also added a small piece of fabric (sewn together in a little tube) for the hanging loop.
And some coasters too. I loved making the coasters - they were fun . I think all my family members may be getting a set for Christmas.
I cut grabbed (from my huge stack of 5" squares) eight 5" squares and cut out pieces of batting and some type of thick stabilizer (I cannot remember what kind I have - I just have a big roll of it) and sandwiched them altogether.
I sewed lines (with my walking foot) along the coaster so it was quilted and then made binding and used this method to sew it on (except I didn't make bias-binding).
They aren't super fast to whip up (relatively speaking) but they sure look great and are pretty stiff and substantial. I made some for myself a while ago and they are really thin and flimsy. I need to make myself a set of these.
We went to Barnes and Noble on Saturday and I finally got my hands on this book. And I picked up this one too - it has the cutest patterns in it!!
I just realized Sew, Mama, Sew's blog hasn't been showing up in my Bloglines - I wonder what I've been missing - off to check out even more gift ideas!
