First of all, thanks so much for the nice words about the new blog look. There are a few more things to do and yes, I know the links are very light and we are working on fixing them. Once it's all done, I'll do a post and link to my amazing designer.
I'm just so excited to have bigger pictures - I know, I'm a dork!
OK so I finished the Weekender bag.
Lost a little blood and endured a couple broken needles {and lots of bent pins}. Not to mention I totally didn't follow the instructions on some parts and this resulted in a bit of a wonky/crooked bag.
But hey - it works. And like my husband said, "When are you ever going to have it just standing straight anyway?"
I told him I needed it straight for the blog pictures :-)
As you can probably see I didn't use Peltex. I actually only used one layer of pellon interfacing. Next time I'll use two or three layers but I really am not wanting it to be super stiff so that should be fine.
I tried to MacGyver the zipper part which resulted in the "wonkiness". As in - I used a 24" zipper and "added " some fabric to make it longer. And I sewed it different than she tells you too - and then I had to trim some off - I know...VERY, VERY BAD!!
Next time I'll follow her instructions {maybe - I still think I can use a smaller zipper and sew it the way she says to}. What can I say...I'm a pattern rebel!
I also attempted to sew the lining in by machine - you do not even want to know how I tried that!
I only did one side since I didn't like the way it looked. I sewed the other side in by hand and it really didn't take very long and looks so much cleaner - stitcking with the hand-sewing on the next one too.
Do you like how I keep saying next one? Because I already have the fabric picked out for two more.
Sometimes it's nice to be a fabric hoarder - I have to use a few different fabrics but I have fabric for both already in the stash.
One for my sister-in-law as a diaper bag and the other for me {which will hopefully be much less wonky}.
I gave the first one to Bela.
So I'm going to clean the house and then get started!!
OH - And one more thing - FabricWorm is having a 2-day sale - 15% off everything with coupon code 2dayblitz - good until 10/8 at 11:59 pm.
