(In English: for my new nephew) We actually aren't sure if he's been born yet or not. All of hubby's family still lives in Costa Rica and his sister is expecting a baby any day now. We tried calling today but no one was around. I remember thinking in October that I needed to make a quilt for her when she told us the news and then just procrastinated until today. Hopefully no one will steal it at the post office in Costa Rica - yes, that does happen down there. It happened to me!!
I sat around looking through my mountain of sewing books at patterns and couldn't find one I wanted to make and since I have drawers and drawers of scraps I figured I would use some of them. I just pulled out all the boy-ish scraps I could find and sewed them into long strips and then folded them in half and sewed them to each other until they formed large enough pieces to cut blocks out of. I made the blocks into 6" squares and then did something I've never done before - I added a solid fabric to the quilt!!
I have been loving all the quilts I've seen on Flikr that have solid sashing around blocks so I gave it a try. The color is a medium gray Kona cotton. I really like the look and will now have to order some solids. Actually these look like they'll be lots of fun to use!
I have some Heather Ross gnome fabric for the back and not sure about the binding. I don't have enough of the gray left so I'll have to use a print. I discovered a walking foot today in my accessories for my machine so I'll try some sort of square/in-the-ditch quilting.
