Because that's what it felt like I was doing today.
I started out with a plan. I had seen a tutorial (but was too lazy to go find it before I started) on using your pants as a pattern and thought I'd just do that. Only problem was I couldn't find any of #3's pajama pants. So I figured...seven year old girl vs. 5 year old boy. They probably wear the same size. HA HA!
I made the first pair and tried them on. They wouldn't even fit over his hips. Since when do boys have bigger hips then girls. I am blaming this all on the pants I used..not on my cutting/pattern drawing abilities.
So I lopped off a big chunk so I could actually get them on his body and then added a top piece for the waistband. And of course I was using this fabric while making these!!
On to the next pair (the above pants are pretty wonky and must always be worn with a shirt so no one can ever see the horrible wonkiness of the waistband!). I used this fabric and (ahem) a pattern. Unknown to me, this pattern was waiting in my little stack of "never before opened patterns".
I cut out the right size and set to work. But of course I was not about to follow the instruction. No, I sewed it my own way (and in my mind much easier), and they came out much better and so cute. It makes me want to buy the same fabric and make myself a matching pair. That fabric is so soft too!
Now Baby Girl is asking for her own with "flowers". So I think I will be making all family members new jammies now that I've finally figured out rocket science how to sew them.
