one shabby chick

Finished

I actually accomplished a lot yesterday - and we had a fun morning of soccer too.

The boys both had sleepovers at friends' houses (it was our 7 year old's first sleepover - he was so excited) so it was just Hubby and the girls and I - pretty quiet!

So I finished quilting the "Fish in bags" quilt and then spent the rest of the afternoon sewing binding and catching up on some Blockbuster movies. I loved 17 Again - it was so funny and cute!! I also watched Confessions of a Shopaholic - it was cute.

(the embroidery was in the scrap drawer and I decided it need to get used)

And my DQS 7 quilt (I'm making another one too - I'll save the long story for another post):

Just need to get the label on this one and the Heather Ross doll quilt and I can get them in the mail.

Can't get enough

I just seem to keep using Heather Ross fabrics in my quilts - they are just too cute!

A friend of ours is about to have her first baby and they aren't finding out what they are having (and the baby shower is on Sunday) so I'm trying to make it gender-neutral.

I cut it all out yesterday and sewed it up today. Tomorrow I want to try and quilt it (after we get home from all the soccer games) and then sew on the binding.

I also finished up Sarah's blocks for A Notion or Two. She sent such cute fabrics.

I'm working on a couple other projects too ....

Yeah - it's fun to be sewing again...hope it won't come to a screeching halt on Monday when school starts!!

Willard the Gnome (and other cuties)

I first saw Ariel's fabrics on Flikr.

I immediately headed over to her Etsy shop and bought myself some gnomes.

And then I saw she had more designs and I snatched those up too. In fact, I just ordered her latest design - these cute mushrooms - today!

A fun craft and an amazing idea

We made fabric-covered ponytail holders at the party.

I cut up scrap pieces of fabric and the girls all chose their favorites and had a blast.

I had a bag of buttons from Kirsten - she sells them at her Etsy shop. They are SO easy to make and so cute too!!

And I saw this blog a couple weeks ago (I think I linked from Jacquie's blog) and then today read this at Sew, Mama, Sew's blog - what a wonderful way to help and so easy too! I got a couple - I love how blogs bring us together to help out others - makes me smile!!

** Update on Bela - I took her to see the specialist today. Apparently her T4 level is fine and her T3 level is just a little elevated but nothing that warrants medication now. We are going to get it tested again in a couple months to see if it has changed at all. So good news on that front but it still doesn't explain the hair loss (he did mention Alopecia and I'm just praying it's not that). Guess we'll head back to our primary doctor and see if we can get the hair loss figured out.

Preparations

Bela's turning nine tomorrow.

So we are having a tea party with a few of her friends (except instead of tea we are having Italian sodas since it's too hot).

I needed another dessert so told Hubby to pick me up some cookies at the store - he came home with these ;-)

Slacking

I kinda feel like that's how my blogging has been lately.

I think one of the reasons has been the heat and lack of sewing due to that heat. Thankfully today it's much cooler and I am planning on heading to the sewing machine in just a bit.

Bela's birthday is on Sunday and we are having a tea party/sleepover with three of her friends tomorrow so I want to make some little totes with each girls' initial on them.

I had a wonderful mail day today - got my first-ever doll quilt in the mail!

It's from the DQS 7 swap and it's from Celeste. Isn't it so cute?!

Love the colors and the little tiny blocks - wow - thanks Celeste!

Also got some Disney munki munki that I bought on Ebay - how cute is the Pinocchio/Cleo one?!

I'm off to add them to the Flikr swap group now :-)

Second Try

Ok so this is my second attempt for Doll Quilt Swap 7.

I keep second-guessing myself!

What do you guys think of the quilting? Is it too much?

I used a disappearing purple pen on the circles - the thread color is actually a soft blue/green color.

I think we are finally going to start school next week so I'm trying to finish up quilting bee blocks and swap items up this week.

A tote

This weekend was a blur...a fun blur though.

This banner greeted us after our dinner out on Thursday (courtesy of my sister and the kids).

I hadn't done any sewing in a few days so today I sat down to finish up the HR swap for our Flikr group.

We added a twist to our doll quilt swap and are all making another item to add to the package. My partner said she loves bags so I thought I'd make her a tote.

 

I used this MoMo print on the back (in the slightly thicker twill fabric).

I may have to make a quilt with Heather Ross wonky stars now - they were fun!!
