crappy photos

I'm heading off to the baby shower but needed to take some pictures before I gave it away.

It's really rainy and windy today so the photos aren't good but oh well...

I don't know if I've done this much white in a quilt before (maybe I have) so I offset the white with gray quilting...not sure I really like it but I like it enough to leave it and not rip it all out - lol!

The back is ala Ashley and her little boxes...just a little off-center - oops!

(sorry about the fold lines!) 

Here are the blocks for my soon-to-be-born nephew's quilt - can't wait to get it all sewn up.

And Nadia's block for Common Threads - she just had a baby boy and asked for something simple and said she loves Oh Fransson's quilts so I used her Hedgerow block for this one.....

 

Update

Hey guys - thanks so much for all the prayers and well wishes...looks like it wasn't anything serious...some surging but no damage...guess they were being safe - lots of road closures and all the malls were closed....

I spent the morning finishing the binding on a quilt while watching the news - very interesting to see the water flow backward out to the ocean and then come back in...

God was good and the news and Hawaii civil defense did a great job informing everyone and keeping them safe IN CASE it had actually been much worse.

I've been through these before (tsunami warnings) but this seemed to be a bit more serious so looks like we dodged a bullet!

Hubby has spent the morning painting the house - and I've started a new quilt for my sister-in-law - she's due March 13th.

The funniest part about Hawaii is when there is a disaster the first things to sell-out (besides water) are toilet paper and gas (it's a small island - you can walk somewhere if you really need to!)...I always think that's so funny...we don't have water or electricity but at least we have toilet paper!

I'll post pictures later of the new quilt (I'm using gnomes and vans!) and the finished one....

tsunami

Just popping in to say keep us all here in Hawaii (and of course Chile too) in your prayers...

A tsunami is headed here - supposed to hit at 11am Hawaii time....

We are filling up water containers and the bathtub...We aren't planning on going anywhere...I think we'll be fine.

Thanks for the nice words about Hubby and I - he really is such an amazing man - but I'll stop gushing..

We are all off to get haircuts soon and mail all my packages of fabric off for the Bee-autiful Quilting Bee.

I used up the rest of my white Kona in my fabric packs and was searching last night on Etsy (Kathy is sold out) for a Kona color card (since I never remember what color I have bought!) and I stumbled on this Etsy seller - Northcountryquilts and she has a sale right now on Kona cotton - buy one yard, get one FREE!! Great deal right?! So if you need to stock up on some Kona cotton - head on over!

OK off to clean the house and the get a haircut - I'm thinking something like this.....

Happy Birthday My Love

It's Hubby's birthday today....I think we are headed out later for a movie and dinner - just the two of us.

I am so thankful and blessed to be able to call this man my husband and best friend.

(I like the outfit!) 

He completes me :-) - really...He is my soul mate, and I am so happy to be on this journey of life along with him.

 

I don't know how I got so lucky - but I'm so glad I am - I love you honey....Happy Birthday!

I did manage to finish quilting the Scarlet Fig quilt and now just need to pick out some binding....

I'm really trying to not buy any fabric right now - learning about self-control - but I did give in to purchase some of this from Spoonflower (and I got the email saying it's been shipped - yeah!)

And I have these on a wish list - I saw these fabrics on Flikr the other day - aren't they just the cutest?!

Another post

Trying out a new block for my 3x6 quilting bee blocks...

What do you guys think? I'm not very good at getting all my points to match up exactly and so now I'm re-thinking this block....

I made this one for Tiffany (aka Tigglegiggles) - she wants green, blue and yellow...I could always go back to the "Map of the States" block - I love the look of those blocks but don't want to become a one-trick pony...so can you guys let me know your opinion..please?

I am almost embarrassed to post these since I just received the fabric today but I was having fun sewing this afternoon so I worked on Megann's  blocks for The Block Swap...

I also worked on this quilt some more - piecing the back and adding more white borders...need to have it finished by Sunday!

back in the saddle

Been a little while - for both blogging and sewing!

* watching the olympics - there are some great stories this year, aren't there?

* making some yummy food....

    ~ I've tried this recipe and this one from Pioneer Woman's blog - just love her recipes!

    ~ My eldest made these cookies the other day (warning: very sweet!!)

    ~ and we've been making bread

 * finally doing some sewing - got Elizabeth's blocks done for the Bee-autiful quilting bee

 

    ~ My month is March and I'm thinking of these fabrics and this design (mostly I just love Ashley's quilt and want one like hers)

~ OK off to actually sew some more :-)

Back to hot showers

We just got back from camping yesterday afternoon. We packed up on Friday morning and spent the weekend in Kahuku enjoying the wonderful weather and lots of friends.

It is so much fun - we go every year and every year I totally lame out on taking any pictures. I'm waiting for my friend to send me some of hers.

When we got there on Friday, they were filming this movie....a bunch of our friends are extras in the movie and one of our friend's played Dennis Quaid's guitar during worship at our church service on Sunday (we have a short service at the campout) - and the day before a couple of them got to play music with Carrie Underwood (she's playing Bethany's youth pastor). Bethany and her friends were playing crochet down at the campsite and all the kids were so excited to see her.

The weather was so great all weekend and now I'm doing massive loads of laundry (the sand at the campsite is really fine and sticks to everything!).

We did get caught up on our Olympic watching last night (well, almost) - not sure how much sewing I'll be getting done the next couple weeks - I love watching the Olympics! OK off to throw in another laundry load!
